We’ve reached August, and somehow there are only three weeks left until September. It feels like this 12-week journey toward Autumn only just began, yet here we are — already leaning toward the turn of the season.
August is a month of anticipation, tinged with nostalgia. Long shadows stretch across the fields, tractors rumble in the distance, brambles ripen, and sunflowers bow their golden heads. Summer’s strength is fading; the sun’s warmth is quietly surrendering to cooler winds and Autumn’s rusty palette.
For some, this seasonal shift feels heavy — a reminder of darker days ahead. For me, it’s the opposite: a deep sense of belonging and comfort that always arrives with August.
I once heard the phrase “August borders Autumn,” and it’s stuck with me ever since. Some call it “Aug-tober,” but I prefer “Pre-Autumn” — the last chapter before the cool air sets in and the days noticeably shorten. By September here in the UK, temperatures may dip below 15°C (59°F), farmers will wrap up their harvests, and the countryside will start to exhale into the slower rhythm of the colder months.
